Biography

RICHARD POUMELIN

Rising Star

There are certain works of art, which attract our admiration at once. We experience a kind of fascination which results from their effect upon our sensitivity, a fascination which is not related to any esthetic in vogue; a fascination which introduces us to a separate world, a strongly structured world, of an astonishing plastic density.

Rosso Richard dit Poumelin relates to Georges Braque’s “the truth is revealed only when it is touched by poetic light.” His search for the absolute opens the way to an intense lyricism. A classic experimentalist, Poumelin began to draw in his native France when he was sixteen years old. He hasn’t stopped, and today is recognized as one of the contemporary rising stars. Self taught Poumelin is inspired by many of the impressionist and post-impressionist ‘masters’.

In addition to his acrylic and watercolor paintings, his art is expressed in his music as an accomplished guitarist. His landscapes, still lifes, and his musical themed paintings are filled with a spiritual exercise…filled with powerful harmonies and magic reality, and sensitive serenity. Poumelin possesses a meticulous awareness of his craft and his art. He remains faithful to the motif, to the object, to the unmistakable poetic elements.

A silver medallist in 1996 at the Grand Salon Internationnal de Peinture, and the grand prize gold medallist in 1997 at the Internationnal d’Arts Plastiques Poumelin’s work are in a number of significant private and corporate collections. His art is widely exhibited in France, Italy, Canada, Corsica, and most recently in the United Sates.

Marco D. Pelletier, director of Gallerie Je Reviens, is Poumelin’s exclusive representative in North America. Gallerie Je Reviens is pleased and privileged to present Poumelin’s art for your viewing pleasure.
