Biography

JACQUES EITEL

Painter of Fantasy

Jacques Eitel was born in 1926 in Paris, and raised by his childhood godfather, fashion designer Eugene Hullot. Eugene continuously encouraged Jacques to frequent the ateliers of the artists Narbonne and Renault as well as the Grand Palais Salons at an early age. Jacques grew interested in the arts and began to study drawing in 1941, and was subsequently admitted to L’Ecole Boulle to study wood sculpturing. In 1945 he entered the prestigious L’Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris, Atelier Narbonne. It was the summer after his first semester that he discovered Carnac and Brittany, two influences that remain apparent in his work by his use of soft light.

Eitel’s work is transparent and mysterious. Through his paintings, Eitel creates a world where dreams become a visual reality. In the tradition of romantic writers, he glorifies trees, rivers and earth, transcribing his inner visions with color. His paintings have tremendous texture and light. He develops through carefully calculated brush strokes and wonderful densities of tone that move the viewer between compositional periods of action and rest.

His Chateaux series emanates a charm of living, serenity and a timelessness that gives the on-looker the desire to enter the painting, and melt into the enchanted landscape. His paintings appease and pacify; they offer us the possibility of entering a world without violence, where beauty is elevated to the rule of life.

The numerous awards bestowed upon Jacques Eitel are numerous and prestigious, including the Prix Odilon Lesure Adrian, Prix de Montmartre the Prix Greenshield Paris, Laureat du Prix Conte- Carriere and Societe des Amateaurs D’Art Montmorency. He is a member of the Salon d’Automne, des Artistes Français, des Artistes Independants, de la Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts and he is mentioned in Benezit, and Grund Editions.

Jacques Eitel’s work belongs to many internationally regarded permanent museum collections, such as Musée de la Marine, Musée Etat Francais in Paris, Musée de Saint-Cyprien and Musée Chapelle Saint-Colomban. He exhibits continuously throughout the world in Paris, Vichy, Margaux, Sweden, England, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Japan and has held one-man shows in Beverly Hills, Palm Beach, Chicago, New York and Connecticut.
